Atomic-scale control of graphene magnetism by using ...

Graphene has many extraordinary mechanical and electronic properties, but it's not magnetic. To make it so, the simplest strategy is to modify its electronic structure to create unpaired electrons. Researchers can do that by, for example, removing individual carbon atoms or adsorbing hydrogen onto graphene. This has to be done in a very controlled way because of a peculiarity of the graphene's ...

Magnetic properties of Tabby graphene C 2 F x with x < 1. The magnetic properties of Tabby graphenes are tightly connected with their structure, which changes during the sample history.

Twisted bilayer graphene goes magnetic | Science

Graphene When two layers of graphene in a bilayer are twisted with respect to each other by just the right, “magic,” angle, the electrons in the system become strongly correlated. As the electronic density is tuned by gating, the system goes through several exotic phases, including superconductivity. Now, Sharpe et al. show that, at a particular electronic density, magic-angle graphene ...

Magnetism in graphene nanoislands - PubMed

We study the magnetic properties of nanometer-sized graphene structures with triangular and hexagonal shapes terminated by zigzag edges. We discuss how the shape of the island, the imbalance in the number of atoms belonging to the two graphene sublattices, the existence of zero-energy states, and the total and local magnetic moment are intimately related.

Magnetic Proximity Effect in Graphene/CrBr3 van der …

The recent discovery of magnetic 2D materials leads to the possibility of fully 2D van der Waals spintronics devices by implementing spin injection through the magnetic proximity effect (MPE). Here, the investigation of MPE in 2D graphene/CrBr 3 van der Waals heterostructures is reported, which is probed by the Zeeman spin Hall effect through ...

Using the tight-binding approximation we calculated the magnetic susceptibility of graphene quantum dots (GQD) of different geometrical shapes and sizes, smaller than the magnetic length, when the ...

Modulating the electronic and magnetic properties of …

First published on 7th November 2017. Graphene, an sp 2 hybridized single sheet of carbon atoms organized in a honeycomb lattice, is a zero band gap semiconductor or semimetal. This emerging material has been the subject of recent intensive research due to the novelty of its structural, electronic, optical, mechanical, and magnetic properties.

Minibands in twisted bilayer graphene probed by …

Magnetic fields force ballistic electrons injected from a narrow contact to move along skipping orbits and form caustics. This leads to pronounced resistance peaks at nearby voltage probes as electrons are effectively focused inside them, a phenomenon known as magnetic focusing. This can be used not only for the demonstration of ballistic transport but also to study the electronic structure of ...
