Frontiers | Biodegradation of Carbon Nanotubes by ...
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered to be among the most promising materials of the twenty first century due to their electronic, optical, mechanical, and thermodynamic properties. As the projected use of CNTs has increased in a variety of fields, including nanoelectronics, energy, materials science, and biology, their long-term toxicity has attracted increasing concern.
Scanning thermal microscopy of carbon nanotubes …
2000-12-19 · We have designed and batch-fabricated thin-film thermocouple cantilever probes for scanning thermal microscopy (SThM). Here, we report the use of these probes for imaging the phonon temperature distribution of electrically heated carbon-nanotube (CN) circuits. The SThM images reveal possible heat dissipation mechanisms in CN circuits. The experiments also demonstrate that heat flow …

Gas-phase production of carbon single-walled …
2001-7-13 · We have demonstrated large-scale production (10 g/day) of high-purity carbon single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) using a gas-phase chemical-vapor-deposition process we call the HiPco process. SWNTs grow in high-pressure (30–50 atm), high-temperature (900–1100 °C) flowing CO on catalytic clusters of iron. The clusters are formed in situ: Fe is added to the gas flow in the form of Fe(CO) 5.

Capillarity and Wetting of Carbon Nanotubes | Science
The wetting and capillarity of carbon nanotubes were studied in detail here. Nanotubes are not "super-straws," although they can be wet and filled by substances having low surface tension, such as sulfur, selenium, and cesium, with an upper limit to this tension less than 200 millinewtons per meter. This limit implies that typical pure metals will not be drawn into the inner cavity of ...
